These oils are made from Pennsylvania grade crude oil from a region that comprises approximately 35,000 square miles, encompassing a geographic area running from Southwestern New York, Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and West Virginia. Brad Penn oil crude oil is a superior quality crude oil that is free of asphaltic constituents, contains only trace amounts of sulfur and nitrogen, and has excellent characteristics for refining into lubricating base stocks. Lubricants made from refined Pennsylvania Crude Oil have been the choice of equipment manufacturers and consumers for well over 100 years.
The term “100% Pure Pennsylvania Grade Crude Oil” has long carried with it an industry connotation for being one of the best sources of high quality lubricant base stocks in the world. Our BRAD PENN® refinery, the oldest continuously operating lube oil refinery in the United States, still refines 100% Pennsylvania grade crude oil. PA grade crude oil is a very thermally stable paraffinic crude oil which contains no asphaltic constituents. This makes it an ideal choice from which to refine premium quality base oils. Because we use only one crude stock, our refined products are of consistently high quality and performance.

BRAD PENN - Penn Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) partial synthetic motor oils are formulated using a unique base oil which gives our Penn Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) Oils exceptional film strength. This unique base oil causes our Penn Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) Oil to cling tenaciously to engine parts to minimize wear during high engine torque loading and/or periods of heavily stressed operation such as those experienced during competition. This same oil ‘cling’ helps prevent ‘dry-start’ conditions to minimize wear even after the engine has been sitting idle for extended periods.
The Brad Penn - Penn Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) Oils contain relatively high levels of anti-wear (ZDDP – zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) and enhanced film strength so critical to proper high performance engine protection. The Penn-Grade 1® oils “typical” 1,500 ppm Zinc (Zn) and 1340-1400 ppm Phosphorus (P) content provide the needed anti-wear protection to critical engine parts, such as piston/cylinder walls, roller cams under heavy valve spring pressure and especially those that employ a solid “flat tappet” type system. As important as the chemistry is to the Penn-Grade 1 oils, it is by no means the whole story. The unique base oils used to refine the Penn-Grade 1® High Performance (Racing) Oils maintain a tremendous affinity to metal surfaces. This naturally occurring “metal wetting” characteristic enables the oil to stay put on your highly stressed engines and makes the Penn-Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) oil resist slinging for an extended period of time. Also, Brad Penn -Penn-Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) Oils are one of the few oils 100% Made in the USA.
PENN Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) Oils also contain highly effective detergent and dispersant additives to guarantee exceptional engine cleanliness as well as oxidation and foam inhibitors that offer protection against thermal degradation and air entrainment. In addition to our unique base oil, the increased concentration of “zinc” (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate a.k.a. ZDDP) provides outstanding anti-wear/anti-scuffing protection for engines employing either ‘flat tappet’ or roller cams. Penn Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) Oils have been evaluated by a number of premiere camshaft manufacturers with tremendous success. Many are now recommending our Penn Grade 1 High Performance (Racing) Oils to provide outstanding protection for their ‘flat tappet’ or roller cams.
